Live Scale Gummy skin is a highly realistic, flexible fly-tying material designed to mimic the texture, shimmer, and appearance of live baitfish. Developed by Blane Chocklett, this product is an improved version of the original Sili Skin, featuring a textured, scaled finish.
Key Features & Characteristics:
• Realistic Texture: It has a "gummy" or rubbery texture, similar to a gummy bear candy, which gives flies a lifelike, soft, and realistic feel.
• Adhesive Backing: The material comes in sheets with a peel-off backing, making it easy to apply directly to the hook, often eliminating the need for traditional thread wraps.
• Shimmer and Shine: It has a built-in, reflective, scale-like pattern and a pearlescent or metallic, foil-like finish, designed to attract fish.
• Durability and Self-Healing: The material is known for being extremely durable; it is self-healing and can even be cut and rejoined.
• Versatility: While best known for creating "Gummy Minnows," it is used for a variety of baitfish, shrimp, and crab patterns, and acts as a "topper" on other materials.
Usage and Application:
• Best Use: It is ideal for, but not limited to, creating minnow patterns, wrapping around Body Tubing, or adding a realistic finish to the head of a fly (like the "T-Bone").
• Easy Application: It can be cut to shape and wrapped around the hook, or folded over for a two-sided,, shiny effect.
• Colors and Sizes: It comes in various colors (e.g., Peacock, Prismatic Silver, Mother of Pearl) and is typically sold in 2” by 12” strips
